What is the minimum gear required to travel by motorcycle in Spain?

The law requires the use of a helmet in all circumstances, and gloves are mandatory only on interurban roads. However, common sense suggests that you should wear appropriate gear for the type of riding you plan to do. The essential gear to minimize damage in any accident includes a jacket, gloves, pants, and boots.

Remember: the minimum is the law, the ideal is to return intact.

Is it mandatory to wear gloves on a motorcycle in Spain?

By law, gloves are mandatory whenever riding on interurban roads (roads, highways, etc.) within Spain.

Although they are not mandatory for city riding, at Moto Map Travel we consider them necessary for all our rentals, for safety reasons.

What footwear cannot be worn on a motorcycle?

To avoid unnecessary risks, the following types of footwear cannot be worn for motorcycle riding:

Requirements and rules

What are the requirements to rent a motorcycle?

To ensure a safe and smooth rental, make sure you have:

Driving license held for at least 2 years.
A driving license valid in Spain. Only the following are deemed valid driving licenses in Spain:
- Those issued in accordance with current Spanish legislation.
- Those issued by Member States of the European Union.
- International driving permits issued by third countries that are recognized in Spain.

If your license is not from the European Union (you must arrange this in your country before the trip).

Valid Passport or National ID (for identity verification).
Minimum age: 25 years old.

Do I need an international license to drive in Spain?

How long can I drive in Spain with an international license?

It depends on your country of origin:

EU/EEA: License valid without time limit (as long as it is valid).
Countries with an agreement (e.g., Argentina, Chile): 6 months from entry into Spain.
Other countries: Up to 1 year (but requires IDP (International Driving Permit) + original license).

International use and Off-Road

Can I use the motorcycle outside of Spain?

Of course! Our motorcycles can be used in other countries. Please let us know the countries you plan to visit during your rental in the comments section of the reservation form.

Can I use the motorcycle on racetracks or unpaved roads?

Not all motorcycles can ride on unpaved roads. In the case of models not prepared for this, using the motorcycles on racetracks and unpaved roads is strictly prohibited.

At Moto Map Travel, we have specific models for off-road riding. Ask about our Adventure fleet, and we will provide you with all the information.

Which motorcycles are allowed on highways in Spain?

The minimum requirements a motorcycle must meet to ride on highways in Spain include having a minimum engine displacement of 125 cc and exceeding a speed of 60 km/h. All our rental motorcycles meet these requirements.

Logistics and rental conditions

What is the daily mileage included?

Motorcycle rentals of 7 days or more include unlimited mileage.

For rentals of 1 to 6 days, 300 kilometers per day are included in the price. Any extra kilometer over the 300 km limit will be charged between €0.30 and €0.40 per kilometer, depending on the model.

Can I change my rental dates?

Yes, you can change your motorcycle rental dates for an extra charge under the following conditions:

Dates can only be changed once.
The date change must be made at least one business day before the start of the rental.
The new dates must be indicated at the time of the change and must be within the 12 months following the start date of the original rental.
THERE IS A SURCHARGE FOR DATE CHANGES. The cost is equivalent to 20% of the rental price or 100 Euros, whichever is higher.

Is it possible to pick up or drop off the motorcycle at a location other than Moto Map Travel?

Yes, but it has an additional cost. If it is within Barcelona, the cost will be €30 to pick up at another location and another €30 to return.

The additional cost for motorcycle rentals outside the city must be consulted.

Can I store my luggage at your facility?

Of course! At Moto Map Travel, we offer free luggage storage. Any bag that you do not want to take on your motorcycle adventure can be left with us until your return.”

Motorcycle exchange and adjustments

My friend and I have rented two different models for the same trip. Is it okay to switch bikes to try the different models during our trip?

Of course! If you and your friend want to switch bikes to try out two different models during your ride, no problem.
Note: In case of damage, each rider is responsible for their assigned motorcycle.

Emergencies and cancellations

What should I do in case of an accident?

For every motorcycle rental, on the pick-up day, the customer is provided with the necessary documentation, including the policy with insurance contact details. In this document, you will find the phone numbers to call in case of an accident, available 24 hours a day.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel your rental request more than 30 days in advance, you will be refunded 100% of the total cost.
If you cancel between 30 and 15 days in advance, you will be refunded 50% of the total cost.
If you cancel 15 days or less in advance, there will be no refund.

About guided tours

Is it possible to set a custom date for a tour?

Of course! At Moto Map Travel, we love creating custom experiences for groups of passionate riders. To organize a tour with a custom date, we require a minimum of 8 participants, and the reservation must be made 4 to 6 months in advance.

Why so much advance notice? This timeframe allows us to design a spectacular route, guarantee the availability of our best adventure motorcycles, and coordinate every detail.
