Few things compare to the sensation of exploring new landscapes on a motorcycle. From the Pyrenees to the breeze of the Cantabrian Sea, Spain offers charming motorcycle routes that combine nature, gastronomy, and culture in a single trip.

If you are passionate about the open road, get ready to discover some of the country’s most spectacular destinations. At Moto Map Travel, we give you ideas for a journey that links Catalonia, Aragon, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia, and Madrid, in a crossing that will make you fall in love—even more—with Spain on two wheels.

Routes for all tastes

At Moto Map Travel, we have selected a series of essential destinations that could serve as inspiration for planning a motorcycle route through Spain.

Andorra: Paradise among mountains

Riding towards Andorra is one of those charming motorcycle routes that remind us why we love traveling on two wheels. The route of approximately 200 km traversing the Pyrenees from Andorra to Jaca offers you impressive mountain landscapes.

From the Catalan valleys, the C-16 road and then the CG-1 wind through mountains with impeccable asphalt and wide curves that invite you to enjoy the line with calm and precision.

Among the attractions of Andorra la Vella, you can wander through its old town, relax at the Caldea spa, one of the largest thermal centers in southern Europe, or simply enjoy the ride through the Pyrenees. If you love nature, the Ordino and Canillo valleys offer panoramic routes with spectacular viewpoints.

Jaca and San Sebastián: History and Basque Flavor

If from Andorra you decide to ride towards Jaca via the N-260, you will travel along one of the most emblematic roads of the Aragonese Pyrenees. It is a pure mountain route, with technical sections, linked curves, and landscapes that look like something out of a postcard.

In Jaca, attractions such as the Citadel (Ciudadela), a 16th-century pentagonal fortress, and the Cathedral of San Pedro, one of the oldest on the Camino de Santiago, stand out.

At this point, the recommendation is to continue towards San Sebastián, where the Navarre roads offer a fluid layout that culminates with the arrival at the Cantabrian Sea via the A-15 or the N-1, depending on the chosen route.

La Hermida and Ribadeo: The Magic of the Cantabrian Sea

The route from San Sebastián to La Hermida along the N-634 is a coastal classic. Mountains and sea alternate in a layout that combines fast sections with gentle curves.

The road crossing the La Hermida Gorge (Desfiladero de La Hermida) in Cantabria is a gem: a natural canyon carved by the Deva River, featuring multiple short tunnels and breathtaking scenery.

The riding you can expect on this route is spectacular but slow, demanding full concentration.

Santiago de Compostela and Baiona: Pilgrims and Sailors

Santiago de Compostela, the final destination for millions of pilgrims, along with its Cathedral and Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are mandatory stops if you visit Spain. It is a tranquil area, ideal for enjoying the Galician landscape with its forests, villages, and the scent of eucalyptus.

To achieve a spectacular motorcycle route in this area, we suggest combining secondary roads and highway sections (the A-8 and N-547) that pass through charming villages.

Salamanca and Segovia: World Heritage

If you would like to discover the historical heritage of Ciudad Rodrigo, the cultural life of Salamanca, and marvel at the Roman aqueduct of Segovia, the suggested route involves taking national roads such as the N-620 and the CL-605. These offer a comfortable layout and views of the vast Castilian plains.

Tips for the Route

  • Ride with a traveler’s mindset.
Enjoy the rhythm, not the rush. Safety and enjoyment are priorities in any great motorcycle adventure.
  • Rest is key. A multi-day route must include overnight stays. At Moto Map Travel, we have organized routes that include quality accommodation (in 4 and 5-star hotels) with meals included.
  • Gear and documentation. Always check your bike before leaving and keep your paperwork up to date.
  • Plan your stages well. Spain offers an impeccable road network, but there is so much to see that it is worth taking the time to enjoy every stretch.
  • Gear up correctly. Remember that to ride in Spain, a homologated helmet, gloves, jacket, and boots are mandatory according to the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). The weather changes between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, so wear layers.
  • Make the most of gastronomic stops. Pintxos in San Sebastián, Galician seafood in Ribadeo, or tapas in Madrid: every stop is an experience.
